the view from the other side...

Good friends.
A car.
And a view like this.

We loved exploring Liberty State Park & I still can't decide what was the best part...

  • arriving by car (riding in anything but those swerving yellow taxis is a novelty out here)

  • our stroll on the pier with the sea breeze blowing in our faces

  • the awesome view of our 'home sweet Manhattan' in the distance

  • catching a glimpse of Lady Liberty herself

  • or seeing the spectacular sunset (as much as I love the city, it certainly isn't known for sunsets.  Usually the tiny specks of color sparkling through the thousands of towering skyscrapers is as close to a sunset view as we get)

about Boston...finally

Loved my experience in Boston!  Although it was actually my slowest marathon performance ever and although the course was deceptively difficult, it was incredible!
The energy, the enthusiasm of the crowd, and knowing I was accomplishing a lifelong dream.
I was lucky enough to be there with my biggest fan, Kyle, and also to meet up with a good friend from high school & her husband.  Waking up early, riding the bus together, pinning our official race numbers on our gear...it was definitely so nice to have someone to share the pre-race jitters with!
Thousands of us lined us in Boston Commons for an hour bus ride to the Athletes' Village, and from there we chilled until the race started.  On our way to the starting line, someone had a magic marker, so Jami & I wrote our names on our arms which was the best idea ever!  As we ran, I felt like a hero as the crowds would chant my name and little kids held out their hands for you to slap them.

Might have had slightly more energy at the finish line this day than when I crossed in the race!

Our all-star husbands: getting up at the crack of dawn to get us breakfast, race to the pharmacy for last minute items, and follow us to the park to take pictures of everything!
Crowds waiting in the crisp, cold morning air to get on a bus.
The last stretch before the finish line.
The fast girls...
The not quite as fast girl
I did it!

I think I'll go to Boston...

I can't believe the marathon is finally here. We leave in just under 45 minutes to head to Boston & I am full of pre-race jitters right about now.

I must admit, I am pretty darn excited for our road trip.  Living in Manhattan with no car means that it has been quite a while since the last time Kyle & I got to ride in a car together. Except those crazy, swerving yellow taxis of course.  But that is gonna change.
Road trip with Kyle.
Outlet shopping.
Red Sox game.
Hanging with best friends from high school friends.
Boston Commons, the Freedom Trail, & other cool sites.
& and to top it all off: running the Boston Marathon. A dream come true!

Ready or not, Boston here I come!

a Sunday walk in the park

Mystifying.
The change from the cold, dreary bitterness of winter to the bright sunshine & fresh beginnings that signify spring.
One day peering from our place into Central Park, it was all bare tree branches. The next, blossoms and trees full of green! It was as if this transformation literally occured overnight in front of our attentive eyes.
Truly amazing.
~
Blooming tulips. Laughing children. Bikers. Runners. Horse drawn carriages. Cherry blossom trees. Sailboats. Rowboats. Street performers. Painters. Musicians. Photographers. Carousels. Picnics. Baseball games. Popsicle carts.
~
oh how I love Sunday walks in the park.

Basketball & a Bake-off

A little advice for any girl during the third month of the year.  Don't even think about messing with March Madness.

I have to admit that I have never before been so surrounded by basketball, basketball, & more...basketball.  I have discovered that this March Madness has some kind of mesmorizing power over the entire male gender.  Anyway, I tried to unmask the tomboy in me and get in the excitement of it all by filling out my little bracket with what turned out to be very foolish picks I must say.  Then again, how would I know better?

Anyway, during one tantalizing night of basketball, Kyle & I had a bake-off to make cinnamon swirl bread for his work.  Kind of seems like an oxymoron right? A night of basketball and baking?  Anyway, we had fun running from the kitchen to the tv, throwing in a little of this n' that before catching the next big play and cheering for great blocks & great shots.

In the end, maybe his team won.  But then again, it was my bread that took the cake.

Can you tell that we are ultra-competitive?

st. patrick's day...

LUCKY=
Look what was at the end of my rainbow.
Lucky me!
UNLUCKY=
Made these festive scrumptious cupcakes for some friends.
Turns out there were exactly 2 left.
Perfect.  Right?
Except for the fact that Kyle & I are on a "no sweets" stint until after the marathon.
And, it's been hard
So what are these cute lil' cakes doing still hanging around? Self-control, self-control.
What I wouldn't give for just one. single. chocolately. morsel. Sigh.
Well, 4 weeks to go & I must say, cupcake or no cupcake, I feel like a pretty lucky girl!
